Hess Allomi Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
This cabernet sauvignon from the Hess Collection out of Napa California is exactly what the doctor ordered. Recently, it seems I have had mediocre (at best) results in purchasing wine within my price range. This go around we went up from our “around 20” to “closer to 30” to find our wine selection. Wine, as a category, has increased in price per value very noticeably over the past decade. Once, not that long ago it seems, we could find amazing wines for around $15. Now we have to push up to $30 to find wines that meet our standards. (This is a big reason why you may have notice a shift away from wine and to craft beer…more bang for the buck). This beautiful red pour a lovely dark purple with thick legs that move very slowly down the glass. The alcohol is 14.4%. The nose shows deep, dark fruit with subtle notes of mocha and vanilla. The mouthfeel is big and round with medium bodied tannins. Nice flavors of blackberry, currant and plum with a touch of spice across the palate. This wine is a great wine and only a bit more than I wanted to spend. It looks as thought I will, once again, have to raise my price point or stop drinking wine.
