Great Lakes TropiCostal Tropical IPA
Although Great Lakes Brewing from Cleveland, Ohio is not the small microbrewery it was way back in 1988 it is still producing some fine brews. This “tropical IPA” is a first for me. The beer has a lovely clear, light ochre color with a nice head formation. The aromas strike me more like apricot than tropical. The beer sits at 60 IBU and therefore has some definite bitter and piney notes. There is enough juicy goodness to check those IBU’s though, so…cheers! The flavors may have some light tropical-ness but there is some of that apricot hiding in here as well. For a beer calling itself a “tropical IPA” it does not have a whole lot of tropical stuff going on. This, however does not keep it from being a good brew. My taste buds usually like a lower IBU but regardless, this beer is a good drinker.
