Andrieux & Fils Cotes Du Rhone Villages Cuvee Jules 2010
Dark purple in the glass, not the color I was expecting. Aromas are hard for me to grasp. I am thinking black olive, herb, prune, not an overtly fruity smell. The aromas are not unpleasant, just not something that I usually get in an aroma, therefore I feel a bit confused as to what I am smelling. Meaty flavor with grape jelly. The flavors are also interesting and unusual. Once again…not unpleasant at all. Just unusual. Dryer, not as fruity. Olive? Prune? Maybe. Regardless of my confusion, I really like this wine. Cotes Du Rhone wines were one of my absolute favs once upon a time. Mrs. Bacchanalian and I used to drink them all the time back in Berkeley, CA. There was a time when they were the best deal you could get for the price. This is an older wine and could definitely used some time decanting, but we gave it maybe 30-45 minutes max. It most likely could have been better served with a couple of hours more decanting.
