Tranche Estate Grown Pape Blanc 2015
This wine from Tranche Estate in Walla Walla Valley, WA is a blend of 29% Viognier, 22% Roussanne, 16% Grenache Blanc, 15% Marsanne and 10% Clairette Blanche. Viognier is one of my favorite white varietals, so I was very curious about this wine that was a recommendation from the owner of the wine store where we purchase most of our wine. Aromas of white peach and pear. There is a creaminess in the nose that comes across on the palate on your first sip. Flavors of peach, apricot and minerals. Even though the viognier is the first on the list of grapes it is still only 29% so I do not get much of the tropical flavor that would usually be associated with the varietal. The wine is more crisp and has more mineral qualities than I was expecting. It is a nice easy drinking wine with a well-rounded mouth feel. I like it even though I was wanting more of the viognier experience.
