Dow’s 20 Year Tawny Port
I distinctly remember the very first tawny port I ever had. It was at Morton’s Steakhouse in Dallas, Tx maybe 20+ years ago and it was a Dows 20 Year Tawny Port. It was a revelation. Now whenever we want to have something special over the holidays, we pick up a bottle of this fabulous port. I definitely prefer tawny ports over a ruby as the tawnies have far more complexity. The color of this port has this nice caramelized brownish/red look to it. Very inviting. Aromas of syrupy (not in a bad way) raisins and almonds. The flavors are luscious: caramel, nutmeg, date and clove. This is a wine to be sipped and enjoyed over time. I absolutely love this port. Some day (if I am fortuned to be blessed, I hope to taste even older tawny’s so that I can see how their complexity changes over time).
