Match Book Tinto Rey Red Blend 2012
October 12, 2019
This is a blend of 50% Tempranillo, 27% Syrah, 11% Petit Verdot, 8% Graciano, and 4% Tannat. Very interesting blend.
I have to admit to not having heard of either Graciano or Tannat grape varietals before. Graciano turns out to be a Spanish varietal and Tannat is from the south of France but is now one of the most prominent grapes grown in Uruguay. Who would have known? This wine has a nice medium tannic structure. Aromas of tobacco, plum, fig and meat. Flavors of smoke, tobacco, and blueberry with a peppery finish. Nice layers for a bottle of this price; a very pleasant surprise. I have always enjoyed both Tempranillo and Syrah varietals in the past so this combination is a winner for me.
