Abbot’s Table Columbia Valley 2017
This is a wine that Mrs. Bacchanalian and I had several years back before we began keeping track of our tasting notes, however the Mrs. kept the empty bottle from our first experience as a reminder of how much she enjoyed it. The blend is an interesting mix of 40% Sangiovese, 34% Zinfandel, 14% Malbec and 12% Blaufrankisch (which I had never heard of). This wine has a nice dark purple color in the glass. As weird as it sounds, my first sniff of the aroma made me think of turkey dinner with cranberries. The memory is so strong all I can think of is turkey, stuffing and cranberries when I smell this wine. Very odd for me with a red to have such strong memories. Candied cherry, mint, bay leaves, pepper all meld together to create a wonderful profile. Looking at other reviews with their descriptions of blackberry, blueberry, raspberry etc… left me wondering what these people were drinking. I do not agree with these other descriptors but still say that this is a fabulous wine. Juicy, medium bodied, slightly tannic and very delicious.
