Brewdog Brewing Co.
On a very hot Saturday in July, Mrs. Bacchanalian and I went for an afternoon rendezvous at Brewdog, located in the Pendelton area of Cincinnati. Being as this was in the heart of Covid craziness, we were a bit limited in our experience of this relatively new brewery to our area. The game room was not open to the public and we had to choose between the inside or outside and were not allowed to wander into the other to see it. As it was very hot out we chose to sit indoors and therefore did not get an opportunity to view the outdoor deck on the roof of the brewery.
The interior and exterior of this brewery exudes a very hip industrial vibe. Excellent lighting with a wide open space makes the whole place very inviting. I can imagine how happening this place would be on a Saturday night without Covid restrictions. I will definitely be coming back to sit on their roof-top deck when the weather gets a bit cooler.
They have a pretty good looking menu with loads of tasty looking options. Burgers, pizza and tacos, along with wings and salads. They also have cauliflower wings for the veg-heads. We got the pretzel and an order of the wings. The pretzel came with two dips: a basic beer cheese and a coriander-turmeric aioli. The aioli was a unique choice and very tasty. The wings were good and meaty and came with slightly sweet-spicy sauce. I have far better wings, but these were not bad.
To the main event…Beer! You will find a separate review for Brewdog’s Hazy Jane IPA on this site. It has been a favorite of mine for sometime. As I have had this beer many times, I chose a sampler of other beers to review. The first was the Punk IPA (5.6% abv)(which is not billed as a hazy, but certainly comes across as such). This beer has a med/dark amber color with a slight haze to it. Very citrus nose. Hop forward, but not heavy. Tropical flavors but nothing pops out for me as an individual flavor. Good beer. The next one I sampled was the Clockwork Session (4.5% abv). The color is dark brownish/orangish. The nose is heavy with tangerine. The flavor is also tangerine with some light hoppiness and some effervescence. This beer has a great flavor but has a “heaviness” that would prevent me getting this one again. I prefer a beer that feels “lighter” to me. Still a good beer. Next up was the Brewgooder Session Ale (4.6% abv). Hazy golden color. Wonderful banana/tropical nose. Tropical flavors with a hint of salt. Very enjoyable beer. very easy drinking. I liked this beer a lot. The next beer I tasted was a New England IPA called East Coast Crush (4.8% abv). Not as hazy or thick as the Brewgooder, but still a nice amber color with a light haze. Very light floral/tropical nose. Flavors of pineapple and lemon with a creaminess that I quite enjoyed. Light in body and easy to drink. Great hazy! The last beer sampled was Elvis Juice Grapefruit IPA (6.5% abv). Dark amber in color with a light citrus nose. Light grapefruit flavors. Enjoyable beer. Heavier than the other beers.
All-in-all I very much enjoyed Brewdog. I will come back here again very soon. The beers were all enjoyable, with a couple of them being ones I would come back for specifically. I will write again on this brewery when we get a chance to sit on the roof top deck. Highly recommend Brewdog to anyone wanting a great brewery experience.
