Me and Beer (a love story)

I wrote about my personal history with wine, so I thought I would do one on beer as well. It is a similar story.

My beginning was, once again, a very unimpressive one. In the beginning, I did not particularly care what the beer was as long as it had the desired result. Getting the desired effect at parties was the only goal. Miller High Life, Old Milwaukee, or just plain Beer all did the job equally well. Keg parties and drinking games (quarters, beer pong, pigs!) were the thing. Looking back at those early days, I am shocked at the crazy things my friends and I did (and got away with).

In my early twenties, I began truly exploring beer. My roommate (at that time) and I, began a beer bottle collection. Empty ones of course. We would go and buy an international twelve pack of beer and taste and comment on them. It was an interesting time.

That’s not me by the way. Notice the bottles lined up. That went all the way around the room.

One of my favorite places to drink beer way back then was a place in Redondo Beach, CA called Naja’s Place. They had 777 beers from around the world with 77 on draft! What an amazing place! Last time I checked it was still there and going strong. If you ever get the chance, definitely check them out.

My tastes have changed over the years. In my early days I enjoyed darker, richer beers; Stouts, Porters, English Ales. Now I lean more to lighter body beers with fruitier profiles (ie. NEIPA).

Good brews with good friends.

Beer has always been about good times shared with friends and family. It is about new experiences. It is an adventure. I would love to share this adventure with you. Stay tuned.
