Double Nilla Milkshake IPA
So I must confess that this is my very first milkshake IPA. I know…I am way behind the trend with this one. For those that are even further behind then I was…a milkshake IPA utilizes lactose as a fermenting sugar. Remember, lactose is milk sugar and it adds its own sweetness and creaminess to the brew. This was actually one of the reasons why I had not tried one of these bad boys yet…I have a mild lactose issue. I am happy to report that thus far I have experienced no negative response from drinking this fine beverage. This particular brew comes from 18th Street Brewery out of Hammond, IN. I was recommended to this beer as I was wanting to try a milkshake IPA that was not overly sweet. This one fits the bill nicely. Heavy aromas of vanilla. Flavors are reminiscent of a vanilla flavored desert but not overly sweet. This beer gets you as much from the nose as from the taste buds. As it is getting “less cold” it is reminding me more and more of drinking cream ale soda when I was a kid. You might think, “too much vanilla” at first but no, I think they get it just right. I actually enjoyed my fist milkshake IPA. I was hoping for more creaminess in the mouthfeel, but I am happy with my first time and looking forward to my next (and my next…and my next…).
