Graeter’s Pumpkin Pie
From awesome local brewery, Braxton, comes this Pumpkin Pie Milkshake IPA brewed with pumpkin, spices, vanilla, lactose and brown sugar. Beers with pumpkin are not my usual thing but Braxton tends to do well with just about every release they turn out so I thought I would give this one a shot. The beer pours a nice dark ochre color with a wonderfully thick full head of foam. I can smell the malts and some sweetness but I am not really getting a pumpkin pie thing at all. The flavors also do not create a pumpkin pie experience for me as well. Now this is not to say that the beer is no good, on the contrary, the beer is reminiscent more of a Belgian ale or perhaps a yeasty/bready Scotch ale then it is pumpkin anything to me. That is probably for the best for my taste buds. I rather enjoyed this beer as it reminded me of the beers I enjoyed back in my pub hopping days. Pumpkin milkshake? Not so much. Good beer? Yeah, I would recommend it to others.
