Zaftig Brewing Co. Juicy Lucy IPA

ABV 7%

Zaftig Brewing Company hails from Worthington, Ohio (which is near Columbus). This is the first beer I have had from them. The beer pours a lovely dark “blood” orange color with big aromas of candied papaya. The flavors are definitely juicy with the papaya showing up along with dried apricot and a healthy dose of hoppy bitterness. The beer is unfiltered and has quite a lot of particulates floating around in it. I know most people say “no big deal,” but I for one am not a fan of large chunks of stuff floating around in my beer. The beer had a lovely head upon pouring it, however I poured it through a strainer to try and get some of the “floaters” out and it effectively ruined the head formation (as you can see in the picture). The beer was good but the floaters and the bitters were a bit much for my palate. I will enjoy drinking the six pack I purchased, no problem, however I do not think this will become a repeat beer for the reason mentioned above. If you do not mind floaters and you like a beer that has a bit more bitterness…you will love this one.
