Big Storm Brewing Company
During this trip down to Florida, I scoped out several breweries before deciding on two, of which this one was one. When you go to their website and click on the link for “beers” you will find a very long list of beers, many of them impressed me and enticed me to want to try their brews. What I did not do, and definitely should have done, was to click on the link to the location that I was going to and see what was pouring at that particular location. That was my bad.
The location was impressive. Definitely one of those breweries that you can tell has some money backing it and has several locations. Big and spacious inside with a nice patio seating area as well. The space wants you to sit and drink some beer for awhile. Overall nice space inside and out.
Unfortunately for me, that was were everything nice ended. Reviews are just one persons opinion, so I am quite sure that there are many who love this brewery and if I had been able to sample some of the beers on their master list that looked so amazing maybe I would have enjoyed my experience. Sadly though that was not what happened for me. We started with a couple of appetizers, the Giant Pretzel with beer cheese and the Nachos. Both were very mediocre. The nachos were essentially a bad version of something I would do at home. Not impressed.
Then I moved onto what is always the main course for me at a brewery…the beer. My first sample was the Cape Coral American IPA (ABV 6.2%). An orangey-brown color. Very hoppy with a bit of citrus and orange in there for good measure. Not bad but not great. Next up was the Tropic Pressure Golden Ale (ABV 4.4%). Brewed with hibiscus flowers, the brew itself ends up a kind of sweet, floral candy-like beer. Once again, not my thing. The Bromosa Tangerine American IPA (ABV 7%), was a golden yellow color and tasted flat. Did not enjoy this one at all. Next was Palm Bender Gulf Coast IPA (ABV 7.3%). Hoppy with some piney orange notes. Not bad but unfortunately for me…not my thing. Last up was Arcus Southern Pale Ale (ABV 6.2%). Same basic color as the rest of the beers. Hoppy with a bit of sweet citrus. This was the very first time I have ever gone into a brewery and not finished even one of my samples. To say that I was bummed would be an extreme understatement.
In fairness, I can say that I had one of their hazies at a couple of the restaurants that we ate at and enjoyed it quite a bit. I can not remember what the beer was called other than it was a hazy. So take the review for what it is…one persons experience. As I said, if I had been able to sample some of the stellar looking beers on their master list, perhaps my experience would not have been such a disappointment. But I can usually find at least one beer that I can enjoy no matter where I go and this was the first time that did not occur. Would I go back…we’ll see…
