Fibonacci Brewing Company

Late on a Friday evening, Mrs. Bacchanalian and I decided to (finally) go and check out Fibonacci Brewing Co. We got there after dark with less than an hour to spare before they closed up. The building they are housed in looks like it might have been some type of old fast food restaurant at one point in time and is tucked away in a neighborhood on the West side of Cincinnati. The inside is actually quite small with a bar and limited seating, however there is ample space outside. Though we did not sit in their outside space, it looks like it would be a nice place to hang out with friends. The outdoor area is very large. It contains a stage for live music and several firepits along with plentiful seating. They even have goats! Unfortunately, the little guys were asleep by the time we arrived. They do not serve food, but have no problem with you bringing it in or ordering it to be delivered outside.

As for the main event (the beer!), my first sampling was the Linalool Belgian Wit (ABV 4%). Crisp, clean and lightly citrusy, this was an enjoyable beer. The Hulu II Fresh Hop IPA was next (ABV 5.4%). Mildly hoppy with some tropical notes. This would have been my style of beer and therefore my favorite, but it was not as impactful as I would have liked. Good but not exciting. I tried the Origin of the Species English Mild next (4.3%). It was malty with a mild sweetness. A decent sipper. The Origin of the Species English Mild with maple and walnut (4.3%) was next. A bit sweeter than the original one with that walnut coming through nicely. Once again this was a decent beer. Lastly, I sampled the Toll House American Stout (7.9%). As we were informed, this has nothing to do with the cookies, but instead is a reference to an old toll road. This stout was far lighter than I expected and had an almost “cola” taste to it. I was surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did (I do not always enjoy stouts).

Overall, my opinion of Fibonacci’s beer is: good but not exciting. I love (love) IPA’s, of which they had only one and not that exciting. However, I do appreciate well made, quality beer. Fibonacci is good and I am quite sure there will be many to tell me that I am “full-of-it” and that they love their beer, but for me it missed the mark. Would I go back? If a group of friends wanted to hang out there I would go without complaint and I am sure would enjoy myself immensely, but if left to making the choice independently, I would chose a different brewery where the beers did more for me. As with all opinions/reviews, this is my perspective and you should go and try them to create your own opinion, which will most likely be different than my own. Try going during the early evening to enjoy the outdoor seating (and maybe the goats too).
