Sonder Brewing

Front of Sonder Brewing

Recently I spent time at Sonder Brewing to celebrate their five year anniversary. I had been to Sonder before but had yet to write a review for them, which is a bit unusual as this has been a favorite brewery of mine since they opened up. To clarify, this review is for the original location in Mason. Sonder is about to open a second location in Westchester (looking forward to it).

The interior of Sonder is a rather small space. It is comfortable if a bit loud. They have food served up from Brew River. Brew River has a brick and mortar location down on Eastern Ave. in Cincinnati. On this occasion they also had food trucks in their outdoor seating area. We had already eaten so no food review is given here. Sonder serves up a selection of hard seltzers, draft cocktails and non-alcoholic choices on top of a very generous selection of their excellent craft brews.

I have enjoyed many of Sonders creations over the years. On this visit I sampled three beers that I had not tried previously. The first was a dry hopped Hefeweizen (ABV5.4%) from their R&D Fresh Picks series. A lovely clear, amber color with flavors of banana and a kinda cream soda taste. This beer was really good. My next selection was also from the Fresh Picks series, a kiwi and guava frosted milkshake IPA (ABV 7.2%). Wonderfully thick appearance in the glass. Nice creamy mouthfeel. There was a sharpness that may have come from the kiwi. Overall a nice beer with balanced sweetness. My last sampling was the Kings Island Strawberry Funnel Cake Ale (ABV4.8%). Hazy in the glass with subtle strawberry aromas and flavors. The beer was good but I really did not get anything resembling funnel cake. I wrapped up my visit with a glass of an old favorite, Orange Julius, You Betcha!, NEIPA (ABV 6.5%). This is a beer I drink as often as I can find it. It is an absolutely fabulous IPA. Smooth, creamy with loads of juicy orange. Definitely one of my favorite Sonder beers.

Sonder is a great brewery to experience for many reasons but primarily because they produce excellent craft beers. No matter if you enjoy IPA’s, stouts or other styles they will have something for your enjoyment. They produce a nice selection of beers and put equal care into each one.
